CRC

On the 7th October, DECC announced the government’s response to and policy decisions on the Consultation on the draft order to implement the Carbon Reduction Commitment. Key changes have been made, which will have an effect on compliance strategies of companies covered by the CRC. To gain and keep a high ranking in the CRC league table, companies need to decide their medium-term plans for the carbon management of their assets. This means forecasting emissions accurately, developing a purchasing strategy, and creating a portfolio of emission abatement options. Companies leading in the CRC stand to benefit from efficiency improvements, additional revenue, and positive brand exposure. Leadership will not always be possible, so companies need to forecast their likely position and prepare contingency plans to mitigate reputation and cost-risks associated with weaker relative performance. The first CRC leadership table – now rapidly approaching - will not only receive the most media attention but also set the playing field for future compliance periods.
